I have a better one - why is Gamora…
And has what Larry Ellison said become true? Yes it did, but it did not, did it? What we got is what Larry advocated for but also we still have parts which Larry was not too fond of and those, we have a lot more of.
We have – in the second decade of 2000s – much faster networks yes, but also a lot more of them. We have new standards – for both physical connectivity and for protocols operating that entire physical infrastructure – almost every other year. Yes we have those newer and better “models” each time but have we ridden of hard disks in our desktop or even laptops, hm… simple no is the answer.
Today our desktop computers are capable of even more than mainframes which Larry from 1996 had worked on(?). These desktops are connected to ever faster networks, yet OSes in those personal computers still run off local “hard” disks.
Many will be just fine or perfectly fine with such a state of affairs – just as many were in 1996 – many will operate on basis of what is an average set-up – nothing wrong with average, average is still better than 49% below it (on average) – but amongst them, amongst us are those whose needs for computer systems are not typical nor average. Managers and directors, business owners of such places will know – profits maximization aside for now – that in order to construct efficiently running company, specially such to which technology is critical operations, computer systems not only that can not! be neglected, but must not be lost sight of, not even for a bit. Then.. hard and difficult truth hits – it is a constant mission to optimize our computer systems.
